Whelp.... It's winter... And it snowed. And with these things came the realization that getting dressed right now is mostly about utility. I can strut for blocks in five inch heels, but on these inclement days even I don't teeter around ice patches and snow drifts in impractical footwear. Snowy days call for sensible shoes (Sorel, anyone?) but I'll be damned if I look dumpy. Being stylish while being practical is about embracing those storm boots, adding a few pops of cheerful color, and clever layering of comfy casuals. Oh, and shades. The glare out there is insane.

Truth be told these boots belong in the top five of my all time favorite shoes. If you have Sorels you know how comfortable they are, how warm and dry your feet stay (even after hours of exposure), and how well made they are. I've had these for nearly ten years (TEN YEARS!!) and they're still without need of replacement.

I'm also kind of obsessed with this vintage Peters Whaler jacket I found thrifting with my girl Lanie. I know I'll keep it forever - it's just too well made, too classic, and too cool to ever part with. Not shown is its shearling lining. It makes a great blanket-y cape over thicker layers. Amazing find, right?!

The practical woman inside is proud to negotiate the outdoors and all its trappings in an outfit so functional as this, whereas the fashion whore is content to cruise around town in pursuit of cold day refreshments and entertainment. Wanna meet up for a hot toddie?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
