Six 'IT' Pieces For Fall 2015

No matter how you define your personal style; whether you're edgy, classic, or femme; you're going to need these six trending pieces in your wardrobe this autumn. Familiar, but with a newish twist, they fall somewhere in between high-style editorial-ish pieces and your daily basics. These are the interesting statement makers used to elevate your standbys and bring them up to current date. Read on to see my list of 'IT' pieces for Fall 2015.

SOMETHING SUEDE

What better fabric for fall than super soft luxurious suede? Keeping in line with the Seventies trend inundating us this year (LOVE IT!!), a suede piece is one of the easiest ways to update the basics already in your wardrobe. Pair your favorite chambray shirt and ankle boots with a suede skirt. Top jeans and a t-shirt with a suede jacket. Or make it one-and-done and invest in a suede shift dress to style up and down throughout the entire cold season. FInd a piece that speaks to you and mic it with what you already have.

ALDO OVER THE KNEE BOOT

OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

Ankle boots, riding boots, snow boots, yeah... I love 'em all. But this season I knew I HAD TO HAVE a pair of over the knee boots. Nearly every autumn appropriate piece of clothing I already have is instantly elevated with the addition of an over the knee boot. Pull them on over skinnies and leggings. Give last year's shift dress a face life by adding these to the mix. Skirts, skorts, shorts... all feel new again paired with this boot. Re'boot' your wardrobe with a pair of these stunners. (Don't fear the price tag! There are so many options out there for less than $200!)

A SQUARE SCARF OR 'NECKERCHIEF'

For a long time we saw scarves get fuller and bigger until we were literally wrapping small blankets around our necks with the utmost of fashion seriousness. I still love my blanket scarves and plan to wear the heck out of them again when it gets cold, but for right now, the mosty current way to adorn your neck is with a simple neckerchief or square scarf. I have an enormous collection I've culled form my many thrift store outtings. (You can't believe the number of silk vintage beauties I've found over the years for pennies!) If you're just starting your collection, look beyond the women's section: men's silk pocket squares and handkerchiefs can do the job nicely too.

UPDATED PLAID

Plaid for fall? Groundbeaking, I know. But seriously, don't rest on last years' patterns and pieces. Keep them nearby of course, but breath new life into your wardrobe by adding a classic piece done in a cheeky plaid print. Perhaps a beautiful wool coat in a vintage tartan, or a simple new shirt to wear non-stop under sweaters and blazers. And if nothing else, find a beautiful blanket scarf to throw on over your favrotie jeans and sweaters.

CAPES AND PONCHOS

One of the chicest and most popular ways to top an outfit this fall is with a drapey poncho or structured cape. Another throwback to the Seventies, a cape or poncho always looks a little more stylish and interesting that your average coat or jacket. Try one in a bold graphic print, or keep it classically understated and opt for one in a nuetral tone like camel, navy, or grey.

SADDLE BAGS

And as one last nod to the Seventies I bring you the crescent shaped crossbody known as The Saddlebag. Whether you go high-end with Chloe or find something a little easier on the wallet, this is thee bag to have for fall. Simply dangling one of these from your shoulder breathes new life into the most basic of outfits or the oldest of pieces.
